Drawing in Space: The Art of Peter Furlonger
Drawing in Space: The Art of Peter Furlonger is a vibrant survey of the artist’s remarkably varied oeuvre. This 52–page art book is devoted to showcasing Peter’s 3D work with studio glass and stone in addition to his 2D designs for screen-prints and stained glass.
The book contains a Foreword by Penny de Quincey of The Lettering & Commemorative Arts Trust and an Afterward by Harriet Frazer MBE, who founded the Trust in Snape Maltings, Suffolk. Accompanying text, based on interviews with Peter conducted in 2015–16, was written by the book’s editor Tamzin Mackie.
This text explores in particular, how the artist has developed the practice of calligraphic glass by engraving interlocking letter-textures on vessels to highly sculptural effect.Peter’s meditative and poetic approach to his work has developed over 25 years, reflected by the content of the book, which also includes the artist’s Seasons series, completed in 2016.
Work by Peter is held in the Victoria & Albert Museum, the National Museum of Scotland, Sunderland Museum & Winter Gardens, North Lands Creative Glass in Caithness, and by the British Glass Foundation.
